How To Tell Year On Vintage Tecumseh Serial Number
It's difficult to identify the year of a Sears tractor. The date of manufacture is not listed on the tractor itself. With the Tecumseh and Briggs engines, the date code can be obtained from the engine to give the year the engine was manufactured. If the engine has been. The other with a high serial number. Both are model number 917.25311.
- The model and serial number for Troy-Bilt power equipment is located on a sticker similar to the one in the image to the right. The model and serial number sticker on a Troy-Bilt walk-behind mower is located at the back left of the deck. Look up your Troy-Bilt lawn mower parts.

Founded in 1914, Tillotson manufactures diaphragm, float and specialty carburetors designed for use on small engines. Throughout its history, Tillotson has made carburetors that are used for a variety of applications, from Indian motorcycles and Tecumseh lawn mowers to chainsaws and weed trimmers. Identification of Tillotson carburetors requires locating the model number stamped on the carburetor body, and referencing it to a Tillotson application chart to determine its original use. The Tillotson website contains charts and downloads to aid in the identification and specifications of Tillotson carburetors.
Step 1
Search the body of the carburetor to find the Tillotson model number. Since these are small carburetors, the model number may be separated into two sections and stamped on different locations on the body of the carburetor. Tillotson carburetor models include the HU, HE, HS, HL, HW and series.
Step 2
Write down the model number. Typically, Tillotson carburetor model numbers begin with a two-letter designation, such as 'HS' or 'HU,' followed by a position code, such as '158F' or '7A.' The first section is the carburetor model series and the second number is the specific carburetor designation within that series.
Step 3
Match the carburetor model number to the application chart found on Tillotson's website (see 'Resources'). When matched to this listing, the original application of the carburetor, along with the repair kit number, is identified. For example, 'HS-158F' is identified as an HS-158F model Tillotson used on an Alpina/Castor model '70' or 'P70.' The 'HU-7A' was used on an Andreas Stihl model '020AVPSEQ' chainsaw.
Research the Tillotson model number at the Tillotson website to find the specifications for each carburetor model.

Ed Bouman | Can anyone Identify this old lawn tractor? I am curious to find out what it is. It has a 14 hp Kohlar engine in it, and was used by the department of Highways in Canada. You can e-mail me with any info at |

Ed Bouman | This is my 1968 Massey Ferguson MF-12 lawn tractor and I am looking for a piston, connecting rod, and crank shaft. Does anyone know where I can locate these parts to rebuild the engine. It has a 1968 Tecumseh HH120 12hp engine in it. |
bontai Joe | The green one sure looks either one of a kind or purpose-built by a small specialty shop. It sure does not look like any name brand tractor I have seen before. Parts for your Tecumseh motor should be available at any small engine shop. but be sure to get what you need. Are you reboring the bore? then the piston and rings need to be oversize to match the new bore dimensions. What's wrong with the current crank in the motor? |
Gus | Don't know what kind that green one is but man it sure looks cool! |
jamie | Ed, did you purchase it or is it still for sale??? |
Ed Bouman | Jamie, I haven't bought it yet, because I am trying to get the guy to come down on the price. It runs like a clock, and I found out it was made by National which is a company I have never heard of before. I'll let you know if I buy it. Ed |
Don Jenne | Its a National golf course mower For more info Google it Owners manuals and parts still available |
Ed Bouman | Anyone out there know how I can determine the lenght and width of the drive belt I would need for this lawn tractor. It's an old Mastercraft from Canadian Tire. When I got this tractor it had only a partial belt that was shredded. It didn't seem to be the original, but some kind of after market belt. The serial number and model number has worn off the sticker, so I don't have much to og on. |

KEN CHACE | can anyone tell me the model and year of this national and if the mowers are available |
Tim | Trying to identify the orginal manufacturer and year of this small lawn garden tractor. The tractor is painted green but I know that it is not a John Deere lawn tractor. It has a B & S engine. The orginal tractor appears to be painted orange w/ possibly a white engine. |
Larry Lindloff | No picture yet, but please help me locate owners manual for the lawn tractor I bought today. Here is all I know about it: Label on side of machine says Cenex 18HP Hydrostatic. Tractor has been repainted and I'm not sure if this is the actual label for this tractor. Anyway, the model number on base below seat is 142996095. It could be 142995095, I cannot see the one diget clearly. From what I can see on the deck, it says it is a White deck, although I believe the tractor and deck to be a pair from the beginning. Briggs motor (18HP) code indicates year of 1980. The tractor has shaft hydro drive and live PTO type spline for deck, snowblower, etc. The tractor I purchased came with the deck mounted, and also included the snowblower. It seems to run fine but I cannot use it since the deck was installed incorrectly and does not move with the hydro lift. It appears lift cylinder is working properly as the unit has a 3-Point and that seems fine. No leaks, fluids are full. I need to figure out the proper installation of the deck so the hydo lift does what it should. Need owners manual at least. Help please! |
Garrett Thomas | Ben i have a mower almost identical to yours the plate on the front says Haymaker Rotary mower co. Kansas City Mo. and that is all that i know about it except someone looked at the seral number on the motor and he said that it was about a 1947 |

Brandon | Here is another part of the mower |
Tim | What in the heck is this I bought. It has a Wisconsin AEN,3 speed gearbox, hand clutch. The rear rims are 16 inch. It does not seem to be a Gibson or anything else I can find. It looks too well designed and fabricated to be home made. The seat has a coil spring and hinges off the rear end. Any guess would be appreciated. |
tim | better pic |
