Olive View-UCLA Medical Center is a hospital, funded by Los Angeles County[1],located in the Sylmar neighborhood ofLos Angeles, California, USA. It provides a healthcare deliverysystem for the north San Fernando Valley.
The new 377-bed-state-of-the-art replacement facility, built onthe old Sylmar site, was opened on May 8, 1987. Olive Viewincorporated UCLA in its name, becoming Olive View-UCLA MedicalCenter in 1992. In May 1997, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center becamea part of ValleyCare, which maintains responsibility for the careof the medically indigent, low income, uninsured residents of theSan Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys.
Olive View-UCLA Medical Center has a strong affiliation with theDavid Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA offering residency programsin all major specialty areas as well as providing an on-campusSchool of Nursing. The hospital was founded on October 27, 1920 as a tuberculosis (TB)sanatorium to relieve overcrowding at County GeneralHospital, and when it was no longer needed for TB treatment,the facilities became an acute care hospital in 1970. In 1962,Olive View Hospital performed the first open heart surgerysuccessfully in the San Fernando Valley, and one of the first inSouthern California.
The hospital was known as Olive View Hospital before it becameaffiliated with the university's School of Medicine in 1970. OliveView Hospital became Olive View Medical Center, a teaching hospitaland a new 888-bed hospital was dedicated in December 1970.
Unfortunately, the most spectacular damage during the 6.5 1971 San Fernandoearthquake (February 9, 1971) included the collapse ofstructures at Olive View Hospital in Sylmar. For the next sixteenyears, Olive View served its patients through an interim facilityat MidValley in Van Nuys.

The rebuilt Olive View UCLA Medical Center was opened in1987.
The 2008 Sayre Firecaused damage to several outbuildings, and an evacuation of theintensive care patients from the hospital.
